These are solid metal that have been mechanized on both faces concentric “V” shaped channels. They possess the efficiency of a flat metal seal plus the added advantage of a reduced area of contact, which makes it a seal specially designed to resist high pressures and temperatures. It is usually covered by a flat seal of soft material to prevent damage to the clamp.
The design underlined by the channels in combination with the special properties of the covering materials, results in consistent, optimum sealing characteristics. The simultaneous action of the high compressibility of the soft material on the exterior faces and the grooved metal combined with the penetration limit of the solid core points accentuate the reciprocal action of both materials. This means that each one behaves in a optimum, fashion.
These seals can be fitted whith welded ribs in order to form the heat exchangers partitions.
In addition to their more specific use (heat exchangers) these seals can also be employed in piping, manufactured in accordance with current international standars.
They can be produced from a wide range of metals, such as: carbon steel, AISI 304, AISI 304L, AISI 316, AISI 316L, AISI 321, AISI 502, Alloy 400, Alloy 600 and titanium, etc.
